The ‘Colombian Bukele’ advances with its war against rumba in Bucaramanga

Last week, the Bucaramanga Mayor’s Office issued a new decree that limits the operating hours of night establishments.

In a measure of coordination and unity, the authorities of the neighboring municipalities of Girón, Floridablanca and Piedecuesta have joined this initiative, standardizing the schedules in the region. This decision responds to the increase in incidents such as fights, disorders on public roads and the chaos prevailing in the city’s nightlife areas, especially in the early hours of the morning.

This adjustment in operating hours in night establishments has been the subject of study and consideration by the Bucaramanga administration for several weeks, culminating in the adoption of this measure, with which nine bars and nightclubs recently closed.

On Wednesday, March 6, through decree 0034, the Bucaramanga Mayor’s Office established new operating hours for bars, taverns, restaurants, terraces and nightclubs, among other establishments. With this regulation, the closing time for these establishments was set at 2 in the morning every day.

This measure was anticipated by the mayor of Bucaramanga, Jaime Beltrán, who had indicated his intention to implement actions to mitigate the situation of disorder observed in areas with a dense presence of night establishments, especially in the Cabecera neighborhood, also known as ‘Cuadra Play’. ‘.

In that sense, on the weekend of March 9 and 10, the first since the aforementioned decree that reduces the hours allowed for rumba from 3 in the morning to 2 in the morning is in application, teams from the Mayor’s Office of Bucaramanga , the National Police and the Fire Department carried out inspections in the night establishments.

The objective of these verifications was to ensure that all bars, nightclubs and similar complied with the legal and regulatory requirements necessary for their operation.

The beginning of the inspection operations took place on Friday, March 8 in the Asturias sector, where, according to the report of the Secretary of the Interior of Bucaramanga, Colonel (R) Gildardo Rayo, two night establishments were permanently closed.

The sanction imposed on these premises was due to their failure to comply with the requirements dictated by the Code of Coexistence and Citizen Security. This action brings to nine the total number of bars and nightclubs in Asturias that have been emphatically sealed.

On the other hand, the Secretary of the Interior of the capital of Santander, regarding the operation carried out on March 9, commented the following: “We arrived with the National Police and the Bucaramanga Fire Department to review compliance with regulatory requirements. “We identified some of them that did not comply and we proceeded to do what the law tells us.”

In the city’s rumba area, the authorities temporarily closed three commercial establishments, in addition to applying preventive measures to two other establishments. “We want these to be safe places for the community. We will carry out other interventions in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, the Planning Secretariat and the Risk Management Office,” said Colonel Gildardo Rayo regarding the closures of the aforementioned party venues.

The head of the Ministry of the Interior of Bucaramanga, in his statements about the operations, also highlighted the compliance of the owners and administrators of the nightlife establishments, who diligently accepted the provision to cease operations at 2 in the morning, in accordance with the new municipal decree that cuts the opening hours of these premises by one hour.

About these, Mayor Jaime Beltrán said the following in his X account: “In our surprise operations, controls were carried out on several establishments, in this one in particular the documentation was also verified and the respective call for attention was made due to the volume of noise. “We are doing everything to restore tranquility to the city.” With Infobae
