Guangdong Expressway Network Expects 173 Million Vehicle Trips During Second Half of 2024 Spring Festival

According to the Guangdong Provincial Department of Transportation, the cumulative traffic volume of Guangdong’s expressway network is expected to reach 173 million during the second half of the 2024 Spring Festival, from February 10 to March 5. This represents an average daily traffic volume of approximately 6.928 million vehicle trips, marking a year-on-year increase of 0.87% from the same period in 2023 and a 30.08% increase from the same period in 2019.

The peak day traffic volume is projected to be approximately 8.47 million vehicle trips, with the peak day expected to occur on February 17. This reflects an increase from the peak day traffic volume of 7.62 million vehicle trips in 2023 and 6.45 million vehicle trips in 2019.

Of the total traffic volume, the average daily traffic volume for return journeys into the province is estimated to be around 375,000, indicating a year-on-year increase of 4.2% from 2023. The peak return journey into the province is anticipated to take place from February 15 to February 20, with the highest traffic volume expected on February 17, the eighth day of the Lunar New Year.

In light of the projected traffic volume, the Guangdong Provincial Department of Transportation has released a list of expected busy sections, toll stations, and service areas of expressways in the second half of the Spring Festival in 2024, totaling 140 locations.
