Timofey Pivzimnyk – what a church holiday on January 22

On January 22, according to the new church calendar, in Ukraine, the day of memory of the holy apostle Timothy is celebrated, but this day is considered by the people to be the holiday of Timothy the Midwinter. This name is explained by the fact that the day of commemoration of the apostle is considered the middle of winter.

VIDEO OF THE DAY

It was on this day that the owners checked the barns to find out whether there was enough fodder for the livestock, and enough grain and vegetables for the family for the new harvest. If they suddenly found that there were not enough stocks, they tried to save.

Folk omens do not advise you to go on a long journey on this day – you may catch up with failures, as well as take out garbage – so as not to throw away the good.

Women on this day traditionally refused to cut their hair, because there was a belief that it could lead to failures in love.

The weather signs of the day come from the fact that on Pomycheno, that on Timofii usually the frosts are stronger than on Vodokhreshche, that is why they were nicknamed Timofii. So, you can determine how long the cold will last.

The main weather signs of the day:

If you hear the buzzing of bees in the apiary on this day, there will be a lot of honey in the summer. If the sun rose at noon, then spring will come early. If the windows fogged up on this day, the thaw will come soon. If it snows on this day, there will be a big harvest in the summer.
