The discovery during a check at the Venezia Est toll booth: the oil was hidden in a refrigerated truck coming from Latvia. Four reported
TREVISO. The Treviso financiers have reported to the Prosecutor for the crime of smugglingfour people, three of Italian nationality and one foreigner, held responsible for having introduced into the national territory 21,880 kg of motor oil, subjected to seizure together with the refrigerated truck in which it was hidden.
The stop of the vehicle, coming from Latvia, took place during a checkpoint activated by the Treviso group financiers near the motorway tollbooth of Venezia Easta hub of primary importance, which every year records the transit of 3.5 million vehicles, many of which come from the so-called “Balkan route”.
To make the patrol suspicious about the irregularity of the transport was, at first, the accompanying documentation presented by the driver of the vehicle, from which it appeared that aLatvian company he had sold the shipment of motor oil to a Greek company, but it was destined for a company based in Rome, not authorized to market products subject to consumption tax, such as motor oil.
Other doubts have also emerged from the contradictory statements of the driver, who among other things reported that he had entered Italy from the Brenner Pass, a pass completely incompatible with the Veneto motorway section traveled by the vehicle, and by the means of transporting the petroleum product, packaged in the classic cans of 1, 2 and 5 kg., but loaded on a refrigerated truck, which was stopped on a day of the week forbidden to the circulation of heavy vehicles.
The seizure was validated by the Treviso Public Prosecutor’s Office, which ordered the assignment of the articulated vehicle and engine oil, with a commercial value of over 300.000 euroto the fire brigade, for the maintenance of emergency vehicles.
