Trump affirmed that he has already decided who will be his running mate for the November presidential elections

Former US President Donald Trump (2017-2021) stated this Wednesday that he has already decided who will be his running mate if he wins the November presidential elections, although he did not reveal his identity.

“It’s a secret, but I’m clear about it,” he said on the Fox network, which prepared a television meeting with Republican voters in the city of Des Moines, Iowa.

That state will host the caucuses next Monday, which open the US electoral calendar for the presidential elections and which are usually a thermometer of the support of each candidate in their race to the White House.

Trump aspires to achieve the Republican nomination and with 51.8% support he easily surpasses the governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, and the former United States representative to the UN, Nikki Haley, according to the average of surveys on the FiveThirtyEight website.

DeSantis and Haley met at the same time and in the same city in a debate organized by CNN. It is the fifth held since August between the conservative contenders for the nomination, and of the eight participants from the beginning, only two have reached the final duel on this occasion, again with Trump absent.

The former president responded to questions from Republican voters and before them he reaffirmed his intention to be a “dictator” in his possible second term, but only on the first day.

“Our first president, George Washington, who twice renounced absolute and complete power to safeguard American democracy, would see Donald Trump’s promise to rule as a dictator as an affront wholly contrary to the sacred cause of democracy for which he and many others fought and died,” his spokesman, Kevin Muñoz, said in a statement sent to the media.

Indifferent to criticism, Trump considered he had done “a good job” in his five years in the White House and reproached that with the Democrats in power there is only “chaos.”

The former president spoke on the eve of the resolution of the civil trial in New York against him and two of his children, as well as two other executives of the Trump Organization, for allegedly inflating the value of assets for years to obtain favorable conditions with banks and insurers.

The process began on October 2 and this Wednesday it was learned that the Republican politician will not intervene during the final conclusions after his lawyers did not heed an order from the judge for the former president to limit his intervention to the case in question, without other considerations.

Nikki Haley and Ron DeSantis presented their government proposals this Wednesday in the last debate before the vote in the United States Republican presidential primaries, but they did not take advantage of the opportunity to close the gap on the favorite and great absentee, Donald Trump.

The duel was held five days before the first nomination contest in the state of Iowa, considered key to reducing the number of candidates and giving those who follow a boost for the rest of the race.

Trump enjoys an advantage despite the numerous legal accusations against him, but he has declined to participate in the televised debates because he believes it is not in his best interest to face less popular rivals in prime time.

With no other candidate qualified for the debate and after the withdrawal of Chris Christie, Trump’s biggest critic, from the electoral competition, Haley and DeSantis were expected to confront the former president more directly than in previous debates.

DeSantis, Florida’s governor and hardline conservative, set the tone from the start by calling Haley a “moderate politician who only tells you what she thinks you want to hear.”

“Donald Trump is running to defend his interests. Nikki Haley shows up to defend the interests of her donors. “I am running to solve his problems and those of his family and to transform this country,” she said, recovering one of her favorite campaign phrases.
