Minister of Water Resources Li Guoying recently discussed important water conservancy topics during the “Ministerial Channel” at the second session of the 14th National People’s Congress. The focus was on where water conservancy funds are being invested and how the national water network is being built.
During the interview, Li Guoying announced that in 2023, a record-breaking investment of 1,199.6 billion yuan was made in water conservancy construction, marking a 10.1% increase from the previous year. This investment was used to complete 41,014 water conservancy projects, including flood control, water supply, irrigation, and water ecological protection and management projects.
The implementation of these projects will enhance the country’s ability to prevent floods and droughts, as well as conserve and optimize the allocation of water resources. It will also contribute to national flood control security, water supply security, and food security, providing strong support for ecological security.
Regarding the construction of the national water network, Li Guoying outlined the key tasks involved in building this network. This includes building the outline, purpose, and knot of the national water network by focusing on the main framework and artery, forming a criss-crossing and interconnected water flow network, and enhancing water resources control and supply capabilities.
The goal of the national water network construction is to have a system that is safe, reliable, efficient, green, and intelligent by 2035. The Ministry of Water Resources has detailed key tasks and implemented them into specific engineering projects to ensure that the goals of national water network construction are completed as scheduled.
