Wingsuit under seizure: the prosecutor asks for investigations

by admin

Arranged checks on the equipment used by the crashed jumper base. To be clarified if it was intact or if there was a malfunction in the flight

TAIBON AGORDINO. The wingsuit worn by Alessandro Dalla Pozza on Thursday morning for his tragic flight from Mount Framont is under seizure, as well as the equipment used.

The Belluno prosecutor has ordered the provision to shed full light on the tragic event that cost the life of the base jumper: the 47-year-old from Schio was very experienced, having a passion for parachuting.

The Gallego prosecutor will arrange some investigations to understand if the wingsuit had any problems, if a malfunction or a tear were decisive in the sportsman’s fall.

Further checks were carried out by the Cencenighe carabinieri who intervened on Thursday to reconstruct the incident and who will now carry out other checks.

Dalla Pozza’s body, found several hundred meters from the top of Framont, fell on a rocky area, but the rescuers who recovered it noticed that the parachute supplied had probably been triggered: it seems it had started to open.

Did Dalla Pozza notice that he was falling and tried an extreme maneuver to operate the parachute? Or did the latter open in half or in part due to some malfunction? Could the accident have been caused by a malfunction in the wing opening?

Probably an answer is sought to these questions to clarify the dynamics of the tragedy. Investigators will carefully examine the equipment to understand if there was any malfunction of the devices at the origin of the fall. There are currently no suspects.

Meanwhile, an external examination was carried out yesterday on the body of the Vicenza man and an autopsy was not ordered. The body will then be made available to family members for burial.

According to the reconstructions, Dalla Pozza had climbed the mountain above Taibon with a friend of the Valsugana.

The man from Trentino had launched himself first and had reached his goal in Listolade, a meadow near the Hotel Civetta. Here he would have waited for Dalla Pozza to land but he hadn’t even seen flying. After about half an hour he sounded the alarm, fearing the worst.

Dalla Pozza’s body was found in the gully after a first reconnaissance of the helicopter rescue. The story struck the members of the Vertical Fly Italia association in Zugliano, in which Dalla Pozza held the role of “event coordinator”.

«Alessandro was always available, very well prepared, with twenty years of experience», says Luca Rosa, president of Vertical Fly Italia and multi-medalized sports paratrooper. “He was always attentive to everything, he had an eye for safety.”

At home, in Schio, many gathered around their mother and family.
