With the blacksmith Alessandro the historic workshop is reborn in Cascinette

A moment of the inauguration

«A location – observed the mayor Davide Guarino – which could be in Dubai and New York. And which therefore fills us with pride “

CASCINETTE D’IVREA. Welding is also an art for Alessandro Botto, 45, who last Saturday inaugurated his workshop in a historic laboratory in via Roma. Solid walls with exposed bricks and the smell of metal, which once housed the craftsmanship of the blacksmith Aurelio Firmino Giglio. «It was nice – says his son Francesco – to see my dad’s workshop revived. A tradition that continues, but which is innovated thanks to the skill of Alessandro Botto, an expert welder to whom I rented the spaces that remained closed for many years ». The start of the welding workshop was greeted by an event that combined painting and music: on the walls were the paintings of Lino Ricco, a painter from Ivrea, with his abstract language that mixes different materials, while the DJ set by Mike Bufo and Raffaella Iamazzi, was the soundtrack for the afternoon.

«A location – observed the mayor of Cascinette Davide Guarino – which could be in Dubai and New York. And which therefore fills us with pride ». In the workshop, some old works by the blacksmith Aurelio will remain on display, alongside those of Alessandro Botto, who also makes roll-bars for rally cars, and welds with all kinds of particularly complex materials also for the pharmaceutical and industrial sectors. It also deals with the conservative restoration of vintage cars and motorcycles. Among the latest works that have seen him busy in recent months, the preparation of Federico Grom’s Fiat 124 sport stands out, who will take part in the historic Beijing-Paris 2023 race. His workshop is the Sab racing weld: previously it was in Burolo. . «In the old Giglio workshop I immediately felt at home. I felt an energy flow that I am sure will push me to do better and better. So I hope to see the business grow and to be able to make my two daughters Sara and Sveva proud of me ». Alessandro Botto has been a welder since he was 14. “For me it’s not just a job, but a passion that I inherited from my dad, a former rally driver, and from my grandfather.” And the Sab racing weld workshop will soon return to host events to create new models of contamination. After all, many contemporary artists use welding for their installations using cold materials such as steel and bronze. –
