US President Joe Biden supports House Leader’s aid proposals for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan

US President Joe Biden has expressed his support for House of Representatives leader Mike Johnson’s proposal to send aid to Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan. Biden announced on Wednesday that a massive military aid package totaling $61 billion for Ukraine, billions for Israel, and Taiwan will finally come to a vote.

Facing a dilemma between retaining his position and approving aid for Ukraine, Republican Johnson notified lawmakers that he will ask for the matter to be put to a vote this week. Shortly after Johnson released the proposal, Biden issued a statement expressing his support.

“The House must approve this package this week, and the Senate must do the same soon,” Biden declared. “I will sign this into law and to send a message to the world: We stand with our friends, and we will not let either Iran or Russia succeed.”

Johnson has proposed giving Ukraine aid in the form of cancelable loans and with stricter oversight, a decision that has angered right-wingers in his party and fueled attempts to oust him.

To get the aid proposals approved, Johnson will need help from Democrats to overcome procedural hurdles. The separate proposals for aid to Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan, as well as humanitarian assistance for civilians in conflict zones, have mirrored the Senate’s $95 billion foreign aid package approved in February.

Meanwhile, Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s threat to impeach Johnson was gaining momentum, with other Republicans joining the campaign and calling for Johnson to resign. Despite these challenges, Biden continues to advocate for the crucial support for Israel and Ukraine.

Once approved, Biden stated he will sign the law immediately to send a message to the world that the US stands with its friends and will not allow Iran or Russia to succeed in their efforts.

The aid package not only signifies US support for its allies but also serves as a strategic move in the face of rising global tensions.
