The Colombian defender and current player for the Italian Cagliari, Yerry Mina suffered a new injury and will miss the friendly matches that the Colombian team will play against Spain and Romania in Europe, on the FIFA date in March.
The reports made by the team’s medical department indicate that Mina has “physical discomfort that prevents her from being in full condition,” which prevented the Caucano from traveling to meet with the squad. In the statement presented by the coaching staff they also mention that the current Argentine technical director wishes the 29-year-old player the best. “The coach (Néstor Lorenzo), his coaching staff and the group of players wish Yerry Mina a speedy recovery, hoping that in the next opportunity he can be part of the Colombian National Team again,” the information added.
Mina’s replacement will be 23-year-old defender Juan David Cabal, who is currently playing for Hellas Verona, also in the Italian league, and who has been in the starting team for several months. Since his arrival at the club he has participated in a total of 25 matches, starting 11 times in Serie A.
Born in Cali on January 8, 2001, he began his training in the youth divisions of Atlético Nacional, where he debuted on July 14, 2019, in the match between Once Caldas and Atlético Nacional, with a victory for the purslanes.
Over the seasons, he established himself as a central defender at Atlético Nacional, contributing to the conquests of the Cup in 2021 and the BetPlay League in 2022. During his time with the Purslanes, he participated in 50 games in all competitions, scoring a goal.
The start of the European tour will be marked by the first match against Spain on March 22, which will take place at the Olympic Stadium in London. Four days later, Colombia will face Romania at the Civitas Metropolitano in Madrid.
