Administrative elections 12 June 2022: Genoa and Palermo, the challenge is played in the center

Rome, 4 June 2022 – Genoa and Palermo could not be further away. Both overlooking the sea, both regional capitals, afflicted by different economic and social problems (the lost industrialization and transport in Genoa, the never-ending growth and building speculation, not to mention the mafia, in Palermo), go to the vote on the 12th. June, date of the local elections. The red thread that binds the two cities are the movements “in the center”. Genoa Under the Lantern the center-right presents itself united for the reconfirmation of the civic Marco Bucci (5 years ago strongly desired by Matteo Salvini). But in the lists that support him there will also be exponents of Action and Italia Viva, although both the party of Carlo Calenda and that of Matteo Renzi do not participate with their own list. The center-left saw the Pd and M5S agree on the candidacy of the lawyer Ariel Dello Strologo, expression of a coalition that, in what was once a red stronghold, aims for a ballot that would almost be worth a victory. In fact, the reconfirmation of Bucci – who worked hard and well for the reconstruction of the city – is taken for granted, perhaps already in the first round. Abstention will dominate. Five years ago the outgoing mayor Bucci was elected by just 112,000 voters and today the abstention rate is over 50%. Bucci, a company manager, is supported by the entire center-right (Fd’I, Lega, FI; Udc, Nuovo Psi, Toti’s list), as well as by Renziani and Calendiani. He should have an easy game on a moderate civic, Dello Strologo, supported by Pd, M5s, SI, Verdi, but who had to crush everything to the left.
