Armani Trophy, show in Porto Cervo with the Superyacht regattas

PORTO CERVO. The second day of racing of the Giorgio Armani Superyacht Regatta, an event organized by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda with the support of Title Sponsor Giorgio Armani, benefited from an East-Northeast wind between 10 and 14 knots which allowed the Race Committee to start the departure procedures on time, at 12.30 as scheduled. The superyachts have crossed the starting line located near the island of Bisce to undertake the circumnavigation of the islands of Caprera and La Maddalena in an anti-clockwise direction.

Leaving the island of Spargi to starboard and after passing through the channel between Palau and La Maddalena, the competitors reached the Secca di Tre Monti in the Gulf of Saline, then climbed up to the islet of the Monks, after which they direct to the finish line positioned in front of Porto Cervo for a total of about 32 miles. The multihulls set off on the loose, while a disengagement buoy was planned for the Superyacht division before circumnavigating the Archipelago.

Started individually at a distance of 3 minutes from each other (staggered start), the superyachts arrived compact at the windiest point of the route, up to 15 knots, north of La Maddalena, after having sailed along one of the most characteristic of Sardinia. The schooner Mariette of 1915 and Antonio Cacace’s Wally 95 Magic Blue stood out, with Francesco De Angelis at the tactic who, when calculating the compensated time, finished second.

Excellent performance for Mariette, who won the day’s test with a very large margin, unlike the rest of the fleet whose gap between the competitors is just a few minutes in compensated time. Third place for the 108 ‘Win Win which beats Magic Carpet Cubed by just 7 seconds, which still maintains the lead of the provisional ranking. Among the Multihulls Allegra repeats, the Australian Paul Larsen tactician, first in front of Highland Fling 17.
