According to Google’s algorithm, never before has there been so much interest in accepting one’s body as in 2021. We are in the era of body positivity, so. Yet physical offenses continue to rage on social media, the so-called body shaming, or the tendency to judge the shapes of people’s bodies, in particular through the web and social networks. An embarrassing habit to say the least.
The last two victims are Margot Robbie and Dua Lipa, which in these hours have found themselves in trend on Twitter and not in a positive way: their names have been relaunched for a few hours for something that goes beyond their professional peculiarities.
The reason? Some of their photos. From the latest shots posted on the profiles of the two artists, it would appear that both they wouldn’t have such a perfect physique how does the collective imagination (or the effects of filters?); so on to heavy comments, especially from male users. And the ‘war’ has also begun with some women who defend the two, accusing those responsible for the posts of not knowing the female body at all if they do not appreciate what they see.
Margot Robbie she is only 30 years old and is already one of the most acclaimed actresses in Hollywood. Australian, after working at home she was successful after her move to the US. Some roles have consecrated her like the one next to Leonardo di Caprio in “The Wolf of Wall Street “or when she played Elizabeth I in “Mary Queen of Scots“.
Dua Lipa, born in 1995, was born in Kosovo to Albanian parents and thanks to her extraordinary voice she has become one of the most popular pop stars in recent years. Not only that, by many it is considered unique for its beauty and eyes, typical but at the same time so particular of the women of the balkans.
Body shaming
However, it makes us think that a Hollywood diva and a pop star who come out of the water can magnetize them insults of some users on Twitter: it may seem a small case, a gossip banality, but it is the mirror of sexism that still reigns supreme. And of a war in which the female body is the tool of men to keep women low-profile, harshly criticizing them.
Robbie, as well as being a Hollywood star – testimonial of the Chanel brand – worked with the likes of Quentin Tarantino and Martin Scorsese as well as earning an Oscar nomination for his performance in the film “I, Tonya”.
The second artist targeted, Dua Lipa, she is also a very successful woman, testimonial of Versace, ‘guilty’ of having immortalized herself on her Instagram account, but also of having been paparazzi by photographers on vacation, while climbing the stairs of a yacht.
Who knows if these two divas have heard that in these hours on Twitter Italy there is a discussion about their bodies according to many users, “disappointing”, to use refined terms. Following the publication of the stolen shots of Margot Robbie and Dua Lipa, the keyboard lions did not miss the opportunity to have their say on the physical appearance of these two women.
The discussion started from an account followed by almost 40 thousand followers who compared the photos that Dua Lipa she had made herself and what the paparazzi had taken of her, saying that the image offered by social media is very different from the one that tells the reality. To the tweet on Dua Lipa another user replied saying he was disappointed with the physique of Margot Robbie to which in turn another user replied complaining of the “flaccidume” of the actress and inviting her to go to the surgeon. In a few hours these utterances have made the rounds of the web and many people have pointed out the absurdity of these phrases and how women’s bodies are constantly under observation.
But all is not lost: if there is a spirit of the time that fortunately vibrates revolutionary and imperious among girls today, it is the rejection of body shaming, of criticizing or judging each other’s physical defects.

The singer admitted: “I hated my body, but the internet hates women” and spoke of her difficult relationship with physicality, with self-harm, with the eyes of others.
In March 2021 she was the young actress Matilda De Angelis to post a picture of her showing acne marks. “My scars remind me of all the times I cried because I didn’t feel beautiful and how much I don’t really care to be beautiful, I don’t even know what it means”, wrote the actress of the TV series “The undoing” and “Leonardo “.
Ashley Graham, model plus size and champion of body positive, added another piece to his battle.
