Boggioni ends with a flourish, the third silver arrives

The 23-year-old from Pavia won it in the 100 freestyle behind the British Kearney. A loot of seven medals

PAVIA

Monica Boggioni ends her experience at the Paralympic Swimming World Championships in Funchal with a flourish with the silver medal in the 100 freestyle category S5. The 23-year-old champion from Pavia reached the plate with a time of 1’23 “31 behind the unstoppable British Tully Kearney, who set the new world record in 1’13” 34.

«I am happy for the silver – Boggioni explained at the end of the race – even the time satisfies me because it is just nine tenths higher than the personnel achieved at the Tokyo Paralympics. An excellent time trial, considering that in all these world championships it was my thirteenth race, counting heats, finals and relays ».

A rich booty

Boggioni concluded the world championships in Portugal with a rich game bag of one gold, three silver and three bronze medals. «I am really satisfied with the medals won, which give me confidence in the work I am doing – underlines the 23-year-old Italian – as regards the overall times I cannot complain. The race that pleased me most was the 100 breaststroke, where I improved my personal best. The one that satisfied me less, however, the 50 back. Overall it was wonderful to touch the plate and see the whole grandstand with the flags of Italy cheering, screaming and in particular meeting the gaze of mum and dad cheering in the stands for my medals. This is what I missed the most in Tokyo, due to the pandemic ».

Monica yesterday returned to Italy with a direct flight from the Portuguese island of Madeira, in the Atlantic Ocean (of which Funchal is the capital), not before the necessary dedications: “I thank my coach Guy Soffientini for the work we share daily with a common goal; my athletic trainer (Francesco Castenedoli) my mental coach (Caterina Pettinato) and then all those who, each in their own role, contribute to creating the path to achieve results (physiotherapy, nutritionist, sports club Pavia Nuoto and Fiamme Oro, the swimming pool Faustino Lodi and the Campus Pavia. A thought certainly also goes to my dear brother Matteo who even though he followed me from home is my super supporter always ready to help me, a guardian angel and then to my dear grandmother Tata grandfather Eppe and grandmother Anna who cheered in front of the TV and grandfather Angelo from heaven. It was a great trip, I take home awareness and the desire to improve in view of the next appointments, especially Paris 2024 “. –
