Cus Pavia and Canottieri dominate the regional with nine golds

Great individual tests by Penasa, Allen, Calvi and Rebecca Barbieri at the Idroscalo in Milan First step of the podium also for the K4 crews

PAVIA

It was a successful Sunday that of the Pavese canoe, hunting for regional titles on the waters of the Idroscalo in Milan, home to the Lombard championship over the distance of 5000 meters. In an armored competition field due to anti-Covid restrictions, Cus Pavia and Canottieri Ticino brought back nine regional titles, excelling in the cross-country trials, which inaugurated the Lombard racing season.

To open the dances at Cus was Giovanni Penasa, author of a great test in the most numerous race of the program, the K1 Ragazzi, won alone by detaching all the opponents without appeal. The title of Penasa was echoed by Rebecca Barbieri, Lombard champion in K1 Girls, and Jonathan Allen, who by winning the regional title in K1 Junior redeemed the unfortunate test at the marathon tricolors.

To the individual successes, the Cus Pavia did not miss a crew title, winning the K4 Senior race with Andrea Bernardi, Francesco Ciotoli, Giacomo Combi and Roberto Soldi, first at the end of a nice head-to-head with the Cus Milano.

Nothing to do instead for Davide Marzani and Matteo Arzani’s K2, who missed the appointment with the gold medal for just over a second, settling for silver.

It was precisely the crews that dragged the Canottieri Ticino which put three titles on the board thanks to its K4s. Golden was the test of the female K4 Senior led by Stefania Scianna, Michela Boffelli, Elena Crosio and Letizia De Luca. The pink success was then joined by those in the Boys category – with Federico Ardigò, Andrea Tagliani, Guido Pietra and Riccardo Valletta – and in the Junior category with the crew made up of Matteo Bazzano, Pietro Verda, Tommaso Albini and Luigi Santangelo. In C1 Senior Enrico Calvi once again wore the Lombard champion jersey, while the last success of the day came from Furio Cellè and Adamo Chiesa’s K2 Master.

The return of Rizza

Once this first regional competition has been archived, the Italian canoe “circus” will be back in action from April 1st with the selection competitions for the national team that will precede the Italian cross-country championships. The April races will finally be an opportunity to see Manfredi Rizza in the water again, called to excel in Italy so as not to see the call for the Tokyo Olympic Games vanish. –
