After nine years, Jürgen Klopp is leaving Liverpool FC in the summer. This is good news for German football. And a great opportunity for the DFB. Because Klopp would be the ideal national coach of the future. For special reasons.
The decision is understandable. And is likely to have far-reaching consequences for the football business and the coaching market. After nine years at Liverpool FC, Jürgen Klopp will quit as coach of the English cult club next summer, he announced this with the FC on Friday. Klopp is the perfect national coach of the future. It would be the ideal solution for German football, which many fans have been wanting for years.
Klopp will leave Liverpool as a legend, winning the Champions League, the FA Cup and the English championship for the first time in 30 years with the club. He doesn’t “stick” to his position, he doesn’t miss the right time to say goodbye, as many of his colleagues did in the past, for example the former national coaches Joachim “Jogi” Löw and later Hans-Dieter “Hansi” Flick.
Klopp would first like time to recharge his batteries – which is absolutely understandable given his enormous workload in recent years. It’s the end of an era. In modern football it has become rare for a coach to work at one club for so long.

Klopp is likely to have numerous options for his future. He would be doing German football a big favor if he decided to take the position as national coach. It would be negligent of the German Football Association (DFB) not to explore this option. And if there are realistic chances, do everything you can to get Klopp.

Klopp brings everything to the position of national coach: competence, charisma, passion, popularity and emotionality. His farewell video at the end of this week seemed authentic and moved people. He demonstrated greatness with his honesty. The German national team, which has been in crisis for years, could really use him. It would be a personality with a signal effect. Vice President Hans-Joachim Watzke has a very good relationship with Klopp. In the event that Nagelsmann quits or has to quit after the European Championships and Klopp insists on a year off, it would be worth waiting a year for Klopp. Because it would be the perfect solution.
If Klopp ends his coaching career without ever having been a national coach, that would be more than a shame.
