Dumoulin, shoulder injury: back in the saddle with Dutch amateurs

by admin

The Jumbo-Visma Dutchman, winner of the Giro d’Italia in 2017, had recovered from a wrist injury after being hit. To regain confidence with the bike, he chose a rather particular company

2021 was a very busy year for Tom Dumoulin. His passion for cycling was put to the test. By January it had even vanished, prompting him to stop. Then the return to the saddle and the conquest of silver in the time trial of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Then the new stop with a broken wrist in early September after being hit by a car. In recent days, the Dutch born in 1990 has started pedaling again, albeit with training companions that are unusual for him.

FRIENDS

Through social media, some amateur cyclists of his compatriots have revealed that, after two months, Tom has resumed training on the roads of his home. He did it with a group of local enthusiasts and with the members of the Tour de Tietema Cycling Team, a sports group that aims to bring two-wheel lovers closer to the world of professional cycling, trying to spread this passion as much as possible. Dumoulin, dressed in the winter uniform of the Jumbo Visma, appeared smiling and relaxed, always in the lead to dictate the pace. A step that, judging by the comments of friends on social networks, must not have been bland at all.

DOUBTS

The Dutchman seems to have found his good mood again, unlike how he ended 2020. In the next season he will have to prove that he is still capable of fighting for the big laps. In his career he won the Giro d’Italia in 2017, finishing second in the following year’s edition and on the roads of the Tour de France, when only Geraint Thomas was able to do better than him. The run-up of the Maastricht champion restarts from a ride between friends.
