LONDON. UEFA has launched an investigation to clarify the clashes that took place on Sunday at Wembley on the occasion of the Euro 2020 final. Both inside and outside the London stadium, before and after the last act of the European Championship won by Italy, they recorded fights and scuffles caused by English fans, many of whom tried to enter the stadium without a regular ticket. Before the match against Italy, a group of ticketless English fans broke through the security barriers and turnstiles to enter England’s first final in a great tournament for 55 years.
The official attendance was about 67,000 spectators on the 90,000 seats of the stadium, a limitation to ensure distancing given the COVID-19 pandemic. UEFA has not provided any timetable for disciplinary cases. The English FA has already been fined € 30,000 for incidents caused by its fans after the semi-final against Denmark also at Wembley last week, including the whistles of the Danish anthem.
