Belluno, interventions to defend pedestrians and cyclists

by admin

Work has begun to build three bumps in Cavarzano and Nogarè. Numerous cycle lanes will be drawn on the asphalt

BELLUNO. Cycle lanes designed on the asphalt and new raised pedestrian crossings at the entrance to “zone 30”: the Municipality is ready to launch the plan for sustainable mobility. It has been talked about for some months at Palazzo Rosso, it plans to improve safety along the streets of the capital for those who travel on foot and by bicycle. The Highway Code comes in handy, because the rules provide for a series of interventions that can be done at low cost to facilitate green mobility.

CYCLE LANES

For example, the establishment of cycle lanes is almost zero cost, areas that are delimited by a white stripe, continuous or not, where cyclists have priority, but which can also be used for short distances by cars. Especially where the dimensions of the roadway do not allow an exclusive use for two wheels.

The municipal mobility service has prepared a first series of connecting routes between the existing cycle paths and established the construction of a first tranche of cycle lanes in some city districts. In particular in via Francesco Maria Colle, piazza San Giovanni Bosco, via Luigi Alpago Novello, via per Nogarè, piazza Lollino, via Bettio, via Montegrappa (up to the inhabited center), viale Fantuzzi, via Prade and via Col da Ren.

“Let’s start with the cycle lanes in zone 30”, explains the councilor for mobility, Alberto Simiele. “Some derive from requests made to us by citizens, forced to move by bicycle on roads where they are touched by cars. In the cycle lanes, use is mixed, but cyclists always have priority, ”Simiele recalls.

ELEVATED PEDESTRIAN PASSAGES

The other measure to encourage pedestrians and cyclists is that of zone 30, areas in which cars can travel at a maximum speed of thirty kilometers per hour. To indicate to motorists the start of these areas, the construction of raised pedestrian crossings is planned, which in addition to allowing pedestrians to cross safely, also slow down vehicles.

The Municipality plans to build them in via Bettio, Nogarè, near piazza Lollino; in via Cavarzano, near the intersection with via Trois; in via Di Foro, near the intersection with viale Tilman; in via Doglioni, near the intersection with viale Medaglie d’Oro; in via I Maggio in Castion, near the intersection with via De Amicis; in via Uniera dei Zater in Borgo Piave, near the Ponte della Vittoria; in via San Lucano in the center, at the intersection with via Del Piave; in via Pellegrini in Cavarzano, at the entrance to zone 30; in via Del Favero in Castion, near the intersection with via De Amicis; in via Francesco Maria Colle, near the church of San Giovanni Bosco, near the intersection with via San Giuseppe.

“The raised passage near the ice cream parlor in via Cavarzano was requested by the citizens for safety reasons,” continues Councilor Simiele. “For the moment we have the resources only to carry out this and the passages in via Di Foro and Nogarè, then we will proceed on the basis of the funds available”.
