Covid makes another illustrious victim in the world of sport: the 2021 edition of the Viareggio youth football tournament, initially postponed to September, will not take place. The news is given by the CGC Viareggio, a company that has been organizing the prestigious youth event for 72 years. In fact, during its last meeting, the board of directors of the CGC Viareggio “decided that the next edition of the Viareggio Cup will take place in March 2022, obviously with the hope that the Covid-19 pandemic has been definitively defeated or in any case under control ».
“At first we hypothesized – explains the president of the CGC, Alessandro Palagi – that the Tournament could take place in September 2021, at the beginning of the 2021/2022 sports season but, after a more in-depth reflection, listening to the voice of some experts, we have developed the conviction that it is more appropriate to start again from March next year ». The exact dates on which the event will take place will be decided as soon as possible, once the calendars of the national youth championships are defined. The third edition of the Viareggio Women’s Cup, dedicated to the Spring category of women’s football, would also be scheduled for the same period.
