France, for the first time mozzarella is more sold than camembert – Foreign

Rome, 13 October 2021 – For the first time in France sales of the mozzarella exceed those of camembert. A hard blow to digest for the French lovers of the national cheese par excellence, which has always reigned in France, and now sees the throne blow from the very Italian dairy product.

The data relate since the start of the year to 11 September last. The president of the Norman union of camembert producers (SNFC), Fabrice Collier, he is very worried because, as he explained to Le Figaro, who is investigating this national culinary “défaillance”, the sales of camembert for years are decreasing constant by 3%, and “have been exceeded by the sales of mozzarella, which instead grow by 5% per year”. Collier went into specifics: “From the beginning of the year until 11 September we sold 29,230 tons of camembert in France against 33,170 tons of mozzarella sold”.
