Madrid will host, next April 22the 25th edition of the Laureus World Sports Awards, the most prestigious awards in the world of sport. The awards ceremony will take place at Cybele Palace, one of the most iconic buildings in Madrid. An extraordinary structure designed by the prolific collaboration of architects Antonio Palacios e Joaquín Otamendi. The announcement was made this morning by José Luis Martínez-Almeidamayor of Madrid, e Isabel Diaz Ayusopresident of the Community of Madrid, together with Alessandro Del Piero e Raúl, members of the Laureus Academy. And the first time that Madrid hosts the Laureus World Sports Awards, but it is the fifth that the event has been held in Spain, after Barcelona (2006, 2007) and Seville (2021 and 2022). Spanish athletes have always enjoyed considerable success at the Laureus Awards and Spain is in third place in total number of winners.

The candidates will be announced on February 26th

The winners of the various categories of the Laureus World Sports Awards, the Oscars of sport, will be the most authoritative sports jury existing, made up of the 69 members of the Laureus World Sports Academy, the living legends of sport who honor today’s greatest athletes. The nominees of the Laureus Awards 2024divided into seven different voting categories, will be announced on February 26.

The Laureus World Sports Awards Show will also include the Laureus Sport for Good Awardwhich pays tribute to a person or organization who has made a significant contribution to transforming the lives of children and young people through sport. As well as celebrating the best of sport, Laureus is committed to showing the difference sport can make in the world.
