Gc Varzi takes full advantage in the road race in Collobiano (Biella), the only amateur cycle event in Italy. The junior Andrea Menini, 24 years old from Voghera with a good past as an amateur at Gerbi, dominated the sprint that saw the entire youth range from 19 to 39 years old and veterans competing. Menini dueled with the Piedmontese senior rated Antonio Mostaccioli, adjusting him by a whisker in the sprint. In the same race Gc Varzi also scored with Luca Dalla Pietà, third overall, but winner among the veterans-1; Marco Conti was fifth overall and second among the veterans-1.

«A success that flatters me because I beat sprinters and put 144 riders behind me – commented Menini at the end of the race – I dedicate my first victory of the season to the memory of my father Dino, who died a few weeks ago at 52. He too was a runner and would have been proud ». Menini’s mother, Adriana Bagnoli, was third overall among women at the Gran Fondo in Loano on Sunday. –
