It has recently been published online the trailer for the film ‘Mondocane’, which will be released in Italian cinemas on September 3, more or less simultaneously with the presentation during the Venice Film Festival 2021, in particular within the parallel section called International Critics’ Week. In the cast stands out the presence of Alessandro Borghi, an increasingly famous face in the world and a fully formed talent thanks to films such as ‘Non Be Bad’, ‘The First King’, ‘On my skin’ and ‘Suburra’.
Mondocane, il film
The plot is set in a not too distant future and with dystopian connotations:
the city of Taranto is entirely surrounded by barbed wire, no one enters and no one leaves, and there are no police forces or institutions of any kind inside. Inside there are the poorest, who struggle for survival and often organize themselves into criminal gangs. Our protagonists revolve around one of them, the Formiche, headed by the charismatic Testacalda (Alessandro Borghi) and fighting with a rival gang for control of the territory.
Two thirteen year old orphans, grown up together and friends, they decide to join the Formiche: their names are Pietro, called Mondocane, the toughest of the two, and Christian, nicknamed Pisciasotto and derided by the group. As announced by the official synopsis, “something breaks in their balance, putting everything they believe in at risk”.
‘Mondocane’ is
written and directed by Alessandro Celli, who was able to get noticed thanks to a handful of short films (especially the award-winning ‘Uova’, from 2007) and who subsequently worked mainly for television, directing episodes of the TV series’ I cavalieri di Castelcorvo ‘,’ Jams’ and ‘ Lola & Virginia Live Action ‘. ‘Mondocane’ is his first fiction feature film. Celli wrote it together with
Antonio Leotti, previously author of titles such as ‘Radiofreccia’, ‘Vallanzasca – The angels of evil’ and ‘Era d’estate’. In the cast, next to the aforementioned
Alessandro Borghi, we find Dennis Protopapa, Giuliano Soprano, Barbara Ronchi, Ludovica Nasti, Federica Torchetti, Josafat Vagni and Francesco Simo.
