Monopoli-Brindisi: a great draw which, however, is of little use to both

For the thirtieth day of the Serie C championship, group C at Venetians Monopoli-Brindisi is back, a great Puglia classic, a very heartfelt derby that feels like a direct clash for salvation. The unfortunate choice to play this match at 6.30pm on Wednesday will inevitably affect the turnout of the public in the stands which certainly could have offered a different show, on more suitable days and times. Unfortunately, even in the third series, TV rights have taken hold forcefully to such an extent that watching a race in sunlight, especially on a Sunday, has now become a more unique than rare event.

Initially reported as a risky match by the Observatory, even the possibility of attending a truncated match in the stands with the presence of only one fan was averted. Fortunately, in the end this did not happen, allowing the Brindisi supporters to be able to follow their team with 500 vouchers made available to them, of which approximately half were sold.

Tense climate already from the early hours of the afternoon, many in the city await the arrival of the Brindisi supporters, until the Celere begins to create a deployment of forces along the entire route to allow the Messapic caravan to pass through and avoid problems of public order.

The home Curva Nord, for its part, appears very packed, arranged behind the imposing “Monopolitani” banner. For the occasion, some banners of the “Bad Boys” are seen again, who are celebrating their anniversary on this occasion: “Remember to always dare, even with contrary winds. Happy Anniversary, bad company.”

On the other side, the guests entered the sector at around the 15th minute of the first half, with a constant barrage of torches and firecrackers which caused the match to be temporarily suspended for a few minutes. From here a beautiful contest begins in the stands, with images of cheering that bring to mind nostalgia for years gone by, where teasing and pyrotechnics were the essence of the cry for freedom of the Italian ultras movement. There were numerous mutual insults, courteously reciprocated with repeated invitations to meet at the end of the match.

In contrast to a Brindisini banner displayed during the first leg, which took into consideration the newfound intentions and the return to the compactness of the Curva sector with that of the Gradinata of the green and whites, the response from the hosts did not take long in which it was put discussion on the number of people signing up for this trip.

Just as in the stands, the match is also exciting on the pitch. The hosts, leading by two goals, let themselves be recovered in injury time, suffering a proud reaction from the guests in an absurd final. A draw that in the end smacks of mockery for the green and whites and boosts morale at Brindisi, for a point each which is basically of little use and doesn’t significantly affect the standings of either team.
