Naz Reid of the Minnesota Timberwolves has been named the NBA Sixth Man of the Year for the 2023-2024 season. The announcement was made by the NBA on April 25th, Beijing time, recognizing Reid’s contributions coming off the bench.
At 24 years old and in his fifth season in the league, Reid played 81 regular season games for the Timberwolves, with 67 of those as a substitute. He posted impressive stats, averaging 13.5 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game while shooting 47.7% from the field and a career-high 41.4% from beyond the arc.
Making history, Reid became the first player in Timberwolves franchise history to win the Sixth Man of the Year award. Additionally, he joined the ranks of John Starks and Darrell Armstrong as the third undrafted player to receive this honor.
Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch commended Reid’s dedication and improvement throughout the season, attributing his success to hard work and attention to detail. Finch expressed pride in Reid’s accomplishment and credited him as a vital part of the team’s success.
In the voting for the Best Sixth Man award, Reid and Malik Monk were neck and neck, with both receiving 39 second-place votes and 10 third-place votes. Ultimately, Reid edged out Monk with 45 first-place votes, securing his victory by a narrow margin of 10 points.
