ÖFB confirms: FC Bayern is making an offer to Rald Rangnick

As of: April 25, 2024 11:18 a.m

FC Bayern seems to have found its new coach. The German record champions have made an official offer to the Austrian national coach Ralf Rangnick, which was confirmed by ÖFB sports director Peter Schöttel.

Now everything could happen very quickly, with FC Bayern Munich and Ralf Rangnick. For days there has been increasing information that the German record champions would like to sign Rangnick as Thomas Tuchel’s successor – he has now made an initial offer to the current national coach of the Austrian national team. Ralf Schöttel, sports director at the Austrian Football Association, confirmed this in an interview with ORF.

According to Schöttel, Rangnick informed him and ÖFB President Klaus Mitterdorf about this offer. However, a decision has not yet been made. “He (Rangnick, note) feels very, very comfortable at the ÖFB and appreciates the work. The goals achieved in the last two years are a great thing for everyone involved. But when a club like Bayern Munich comes knocking, it’s understandable that people think about the interest of this club,” explained the sports director.

“Conspiring unity” – ÖFB believes in Rangnick’s whereabouts

Just a few days ago, Rangnick publicly confirmed that he had been contacted by FC Bayern for the first time in an interview with the portal 90min.at, although at the time he stated that he had not yet received an official offer. This has now changed and shows that at Säbener Straße, sports director Max Eberl and sports director Christoph Freund are working hard on Rangnick’s personnel.

At the ÖFB, however, they hope that Rangnick will continue to be the national coach. “If it’s about financial aspects, then he wouldn’t have to think about it now. We’re trying to implement a lot of what he suggests. He appreciates the work with these players, he appreciates the work with the supervisors. A close-knit community has formed.” said Schöttel.

ÖFB expects Rangnick to make a decision soon

People in Austria and Munich probably won’t have to wait too long for a decision. I think it will have to be done in a week or two,” explained Schöttel: “We are close to the European Championships with big goals. Of course, there will also be a deadline from Bayern Munich because they also want to know.” Eberl had repeatedly emphasized that he would like to announce a new coach in April.

If Rangnick decides to get involved with FC Bayern, according to Schöttel, he will definitely be Austria’s national coach at the European Championships in Germany (June 14th – July 14th, 2024). Nevertheless, they want to accommodate the 65-year-old and the Munich team when it comes to squad planning for the coming season: “It’s certainly not an ideal story. If that were the case, we’ll manage that too. We don’t just have Ralf, we have a really good one “We will all help together if it comes to that,” said Schöttel.
