The 2024 Snooker Welsh Open saw the Chinese Legion suffer heavy losses on the second day of competition, with only two players advancing to the top 32.

One of the biggest upsets of the day came when Ding Junhui, ranked 11th in the world, was stopped in the first round of the main draw by English player Robbie Williams. Despite tying the score 2-2, Ding Junhui ultimately lost with a final score of 2-4. His elimination was not entirely unexpected, as he had already shown signs of a sluggish state and low-level mistakes in the postponed qualifying match the day before.

Other Chinese players who were eliminated that day included Xiao Guodong, Tian Pengfei, Ma Hailong, and Long Zehuang, who all faced tough opponents and were defeated as anticipated.

However, the younger generation of Chinese snooker players brought hope to the team, with Si Jiahui and Fan Zhengyi successfully advancing to the top 32. Both players showcased their strength and skill, defeating their opponents and securing their spots in the next round.

Looking ahead to the next day of the Welsh Open, Chinese players Zhang Anda, Wu Yize, and Hong Kong star Marco Fu will continue to compete for the top 32 seats. Si Jiahui will face a tough challenge as he competes with world No. 3 Mark Allen for a spot in the top 16.

The Chinese Legion may have suffered heavy losses, but there is still hope for success as the competition at the Snooker Welsh Open continues.
