Father of Selecta Player Released After Arbitrary Detention

The father of midfielder Marcelo Díaz, a Selecta and Águila player, was released from the Izalco prison during the early hours of this Wednesday. His release comes after being detained under the emergency regime on March 30.

Díaz’s father was reportedly searched and detained at the Cuscatlán stadium, where he had gone to watch his son play against Alianza. According to Díaz, his father was then taken into custody by PNC agents on allegations of belonging to criminal groups, which he vehemently denied.

In a public letter addressed to President Nayib Bukele, Díaz had requested the release of his father, highlighting the arbitrary nature of his detention.

This incident is just one of many reported cases of human rights violations under the Exception Regime. According to a recent report by seven social organizations, the majority of complaints received involved arbitrary detentions, disrespect for due process, and home invasions.

The release of Díaz’s father has brought some relief to the family and supporters who had been advocating for his freedom. As the country continues to grapple with issues of human rights violations, this case serves as a reminder of the importance of upholding justice and the rule of law.
