And so the race to get vaccinated started: in the last 24 hours over 150 thousand Italians they connected to the regional portals to book the first dose and thus be added by 6 August, the date on which the obligation will take effect, to those 40 million who have already downloaded the certificate. The government’s choice was intended precisely to encourage vaccination, and above all to avoid having to close a series of activities in the height of summer due to the new increase in infections due to the spread of the terrible Delta variant which, although it is not as widespread as across the border, is now predominant in Italy as well.

Two circulars from the Ministry of Health will arrive in the next few hours: one will indicate i subjects that will be exempted from the use of the green pass (for example those who cannot get vaccinated for health reasons or have had an allergic reaction after the first dose) and the other will solve the problem of Italians who have vaccinated themselves abroad and have not yet received the pass. “There is no reason for this situation to persist” explained the director of prevention Gianni Rezza.
Go on with the green pass, then. “The alternative would have been more widespread and generalized measures” reiterates, not by chance, the Minister of Health Roberto Speranza. Now, however, the debate shifts to the issues of school, transport and work, which should arrive on the Government table next week to arrive on the table. The knot of discos remains unresolved, with the ministers of the League calling for an afterthought.

The decree provides that “the owners or managers of the services and activities” for which the certificate is required “are required to verify that access to the aforementioned services takes place in compliance with the requirements”. In Lombardy it has gone from 28 thousand to 49 thousand bookings in 24 hours while it is in Piedmont that in Campania there has been a doubling compared to the last few days: from 10 to 20 thousand and from 5 to 10 thousand respectively. Almost exponential increases also in Abruzzo e Friuli Venezia Giulia while Puglia recorded a + 10%. In Veneto the president Luca Zaia speaks of “assault on diligence” and in Lazio 55 thousand have booked, almost ten times more: “a really encouraging result” says the councilor for health Alessio D’Amato. A surge in bookings also in Emilia Romagna: in just over four days, from last Monday to today’s morning, in fact, they were over 77mil new bookings received from health agencies.
The goal now is to continue on this path, pushing both on young people (for whom the Moderna vaccine can also be used after the EMA’s green light for the over 12) and on the almost 5 million over 50 who are still reluctant to get vaccinated, guaranteeing doses for everyone. On this point, government sources assure, there will be no problems: in the refrigerators of the Regions there are 5 million doses, of which 2.5 from Pfizer and Moderna, and also deliveries in August will not differ from those in July. Overall, about 15 million doses should arrive, with a physiological decline around August which will however be offset by a series of more consistent arrivals between late August and early September.
Parallel to the boom in bookings, the obligation of the green pass has pushed the no vax into the open: dozens of demonstrations throughout Italy have already been called for the next few hours via Facebook and Telegram against “the passport slavery and the obligation to vaccinate” and Wednesday 28 a torchlight procession in Piazza del Popolo in Rome and in front of the town halls of the ‘Free Choice’ committee found the agreement of the parliamentarians leaguers Alberto Bagnai and Claudio Borghi.
The same leader of the Brothers of Italy Giorgia Meloni, while reiterating that he will be vaccinated and not be no vax, attacks Mario Draghi. “His are words of terror. The green pass has become the new mantra to be imposed, the rest does not matter. We are picking on our rule of law, this is not freedom”.
At the moment, security sources point out, the demonstrations do not worry but it is clear that if there are gatherings or situations at risk, action will be taken to restore security conditions.
