VfL Bochum looks like a sure winner against Augsburg, but is still giving up success. Other coaches would reprimand their team or argue with the referee. Not Thomas Letsch. He touches his own nose. And strong.
FC Augsburg saved a draw at VfL Bochum with a late goal from their top striker Ermedin Demirovic. In stoppage time, Demirovic converted a hand penalty to make the final score 1-1 (0-1) and scored his eleventh goal of the season. Augsburg and Bochum remain in the middle of the Bundesliga table and maintained their distance from the relegation zone.
For a long time it looked like another home win for Bochum, who had only suffered one defeat in ten games in their own stadium this season. Moritz Broschinksi initially scored with an overhead kick (33rd minute), but the first goal of the season wasn’t enough in the end. In stoppage time, the ball hit the arm of Augsburg’s VfL defense chief Ivan Ordets during an attack. There were rightly penalties.

After the game, the Bochum coach had surprisingly open words that you rarely hear in the industry. Thomas Letsch blamed himself entirely for the loss of points. His confession: “I have to say that I just made very bad decisions. That’s why I take these three points I didn’t win completely on my own responsibility. The decisions I made were too defensive. This gave the opponent space. I screwed up – let’s move on!”

He let the team play too defensively and just defend. As a result, his players were no longer able to build up pressure. Letsch, who is doing well with Bochum and does not have to worry about his job, promised: “I will learn a lot from the game. We as a team will make it difficult for the next opponent – even if it is FC Bayern Munich.”
