Vingegaard reached the finish line of the 191.1km course in Salins-les-Bains, 31 seconds ahead of the main field after attacking the climb with 14km to go.

Frenchman Julian Alaphilippe decided for himself the spurt of the chase group, who is now 1:23 minutes behind Vingegaard in second place in the overall ranking.

The Critérium du Dauphiné, which is the traditional test before the Tour de France, culminates in two demanding mountain stages at the weekend.
