Wemby, 40 points and 20 rebounds; Brunson 61 points in Spurs vs Knicks

In a thrilling overtime battle, Victor Wembanyama and Jalen Brunson put on a spectacular performance to lead the San Antonio Spurs to a 130-126 victory over the New York Knicks. Wembanyama had a 40-point, 20-rebound game, while Brunson scored a whopping 61 points, falling just shy of Carmelo Anthony’s franchise record of 62 points.

This historic game marked only the second time in NBA history that one player had a 40-point, 20-rebound game and another player had a 60-point game. The last time this occurred was back in 1961 when Elgin Baylor and Wilt Chamberlain achieved the feat.

Despite Wembanyama briefly leaving the court with a leg injury early in the game, he returned to lead the Spurs to victory. Devin Vasell added 23 points for San Antonio, as they won their third straight game for the first time this season.

On the other side, Donte DiVincenzo set a new Knicks record for three-pointers made in a single season with 245, but it wasn’t enough to secure the win for New York. The loss puts the Knicks a half-game behind the Cleveland Cavaliers for third place in the Eastern Conference.

The game was a high-scoring affair, with both teams showcasing their offensive firepower. The Knicks, known for their strong defense, struggled to contain the Spurs’ scoring onslaught, giving up 74 points in the first half alone.

In the end, it was the dynamic duo of Wembanyama and Brunson who stole the show, delivering a memorable performance that will be remembered in NBA history.
