Title: Chinese Figure Skater Tian Tong Finishes 8th in Men’s Singles Competition at Winter Youth Olympics

The men’s single figure skating competition at the 2024 Gangwon Winter Youth Olympic Games came to an end on January 29. Chinese player Tian Tong finished in eighth place, while the gold medal was claimed by South Korea’s local player Kim Hyun-gyeom.

In the men’s singles free skating competition, Tian Tong scored 112.24 points, ranking eighth among all 18 contestants with a total score of 179.32 points. Despite Kim Hyun-gyeom being ranked third in the short program, he managed to snatch the championship with a high score in the free skate.

Prior to the Winter Youth Olympics, Tian Tong had just finished competing in the youth group of the “Fourteen Winters.” Battling continuous fighting and foot injuries, Tian Tong described the physical challenge he faced. After the competition, he expressed satisfaction with his overall performance, citing foot injuries as the main reason for any mistakes made during his routine.

Looking ahead to the figure skating team competition scheduled for February 1, Tian Tong appeared to be in a more relaxed state. He emphasized the need to conserve energy and take things easier in preparation for the upcoming event.

In the pairs skating event, skaters from Canada, the United States, and Spain secured the top three spots, while the curling mixed doubles round-robin competition saw the Chinese team making significant progress.

In the snow competition, athletes from Northern Europe dominated the women’s cross-country skiing competition, with Sweden’s Tarn Land clinching the gold medal and Italy’s Poch securing the men’s championship.
