Beijing time on March 31, the Chicago Sky of the WNBA officially announced today through its official website that it has obtained the signing rights of Chinese player Li Yueru through a trade with the Los Angeles Sparks, and prepared a rookie contract for Li Yueru.
The Chicago Sky team won the WNBA championship last year. This team has been associated with Chinese players more than 10 years ago. Chinese women’s basketball player Chen Nan once played for the Sky team.
“Li Yueru is a very influential player in China and internationally, and she can be of great help to the team,” Sky coach James Wade said of the deal: “She will be a great player. WNBA player, we hope she will be able to wear a Chicago Sky uniform in the future.”
Li Yueru, who is 2.01 meters tall, is only 23 years old this year. In the Tokyo Olympics, she averaged 14.8 points and 8.3 rebounds per game, and her shooting percentage was as high as 78.6%. In the just-concluded Women’s Basketball World Cup qualifying match, she averaged 16.7 points and 8.0 rebounds per game. Not only did she help the Chinese women’s basketball team win three games and advance to the World Cup, she was also selected for the best team with her excellent performance.
