At PAX East 2024 this weekend, Dodgeball Academia developer Pocket Trap Games surprised fans with the announcement of their latest project, Pipistrello and the Cursed Yoyo. The game is described as a narrative-driven retro platformer where players take on the role of Pippit, a young yo-yo master from a prestigious family lineage.
What sets Pipistrello and the Cursed Yoyo apart is Pocket Trap Games’ claim that it has birthed a new genre called Yoyovania. The game promises to combine fast-paced action, witty humor, and impressive yo-yo skills into a visually stunning gaming experience.
The Steam description for Pipistrello and the Cursed Yoyo reads, “Tighten that string and destroy the yo-yo action! In this 2D top-down adventure, you’ll explore a vast cityscape and reinterpret your surroundings by mastering your yo-yo skills. Solve puzzles, battle the city’s rival crime bosses, and regain the influence of the Pipistrello family!”
While no official release date has been announced yet, fans can get a sneak peek at the game by checking out the reveal trailer. With its unique concept and charming retro aesthetic, Pipistrello and the Cursed Yoyo is definitely a game to keep an eye on in the coming months.
