Microsoft’s New AI PC to Feature Qualcomm ARM Processors and AI Explorer Functionality
Rumors are swirling around Microsoft’s consumer-facing Surface computers this year, suggesting that they will be equipped with Qualcomm’s Arm architecture processors. This news comes as Microsoft actively promotes its new AI PC, set to bring a host of new AI features to Windows 11. Foreign media has dubbed the AI PC as the iconic “AI Explorer,” rumored to come with strict specifications that will require users to upgrade to a new computer to access its capabilities.
One of the standout features of the AI PC is the AI Explorer function, which will allow users to search for conversation records, files, or picture content through a timeline display of their operations. Even with vague or unclear instructions, AI Explorer is said to possess the understanding ability to complete tasks efficiently.
However, not every Windows 11 computer will be able to enable AI Explorer. Recent reports from foreign media detail the official hardware requirements for AI Explorer, which include ARM architecture processors and the Snapdragon X Elite NPU (Neural Network Processor). These specifications mean that current Intel and AMD x86 processors will not be compatible with AI Explorer. Additionally, a minimum of 16GB RAM and more than 225GB of system disk space are also needed.
The main challenge for users looking to upgrade to an AI Explorer-enabled PC will be meeting the CPU and NPU requirements, as ARM architecture processors are still uncommon in the market, and Qualcomm’s NPU availability is limited. Anticipation is now growing for the official launch of Snapdragon X Elite laptops in the second half of the year, with companies like DELL, HP, Acer, Asus, Samsung, Microsoft, Xiaomi, and Lenovo all slated to release compatible devices.
