OMEGA Launches New “Dark Side of the Moon” Watch to Commemorate 50th Anniversary of Apollo 8 Mission
In 2018, OMEGA Speedmaster launched a new “Dark Side of the Moon” watch to mark the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 8 mission. The latest offering from OMEGA takes this iconic timepiece as its theme and enhances it with sophisticated technology and exquisite craftsmanship.
The semi-skeleton dial features a lunar surface texture observed from the Earth’s perspective, with a blackened dial and bridge displaying a laser-etched lunar relief. The watch is equipped with caliber 3869, which showcases two different sides, with the dial representing the moon’s surface as seen from Earth, and the back side displaying the dark side of the moon that only astronauts can see.
Additional features include a black anodized aluminum dial, a 44.25mm case, a tachymeter scale filled with Grand Feu enamel, a yellow lacquered central chronograph seconds hand, grade 5 titanium subdial hand at 9 o’clock, and a case back inscription that reads “WE’LL SEE YOU ON THE OTHER SIDE.” It also comes with a black rubber porous strap.
