The Battle of Processors: How Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen3 Compares to Apple A17 Pro
By: Tech News Correspondent

In recent years, the Qualcomm Snapdragon processors have been gradually gaining strength in the mobile market. The performance of the current Snapdragon 8 Gen3 processor has been making waves, with benchmark scores that are now close to that of the Apple A17 Pro.

According to data revealed by @Nguyen Phi Hung, the Geekbench 6 single-core running score of Apple A18 Pro is 3500, and the multi-core running score is 8200. The single-core score of 3500 may be the result of an unexpected running score. For reference, the iPhone 15 Pro included in Geekbench 6 has an average single-core score of 2906 points and a multi-core score of 7231 points.

However, the evening of January 30 saw the running score data of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 processor appearing online, with a single-core running score of 2845, which is close to the Apple A17 Pro processor. The multi-core running score of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 reached an astonishing 10628 points, which is close to the M3 processor in the MacBook. This suggests a significant improvement in the performance of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 compared to its predecessor, with up to 46% improvement in multi-threaded performance.

The source of this running score data is currently unknown, and its credibility is uncertain. It’s important to mention that “lahaina” mentioned in the AnTuTu running score is the code name of Snapdragon 888, adding a layer of uncertainty to the reported performance comparison.

Previously, it was revealed that Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will be manufactured using TSMC’s 3nm process and will be designed as a “2+6” pure large-core architecture. On the other hand, Apple A18 Pro retains the 6-core CPU design, four of which are efficiency cores. From an architectural standpoint, it is reasonable that the multi-core performance of Apple A18 Pro is weaker than Snapdragon 8 Gen 4.

As the competition in the mobile processor market heats up, consumers can look forward to more powerful and efficient devices in the near future. As for now, tech enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting further official announcements and detailed performance benchmarks from both Qualcomm and Apple. Stay tuned for more updates on this highly anticipated battle of processors.
