VW ID. Models receive Software 3.0: This is new

Newly produced vehicles from Volkswagen’s MEB platform will now receive operating system version 3.0. This applies to all ID.3, ID.4, the ID.4 GTX variant and the brand new ID.5 (GTX) of course too. The update should also be available for existing customers in the second quarter via an over-the-air update. What customers like me can expect with the ID.4 1ST is a few things:

Innovations in software generation 3.0 at a glance.

More charging power & more range

All ID. Models with the 77kWh battery benefit from a new charging curve with the update. The electric vehicles can now charge with 135 kW instead of 125 kW. There are also improvements in the thermal management of the battery, which should reduce consumption when driving and increase the range, especially in cold weather. Customers who want to conserve their battery can activate the new Battery Care Mode. It limits the SOC charge level to 80 percent.

Intelligent route planner

The online route calculation in the navigation system creates clever multi-stop route planning for long distances, with which the car gets to its destination as quickly as possible. It includes traffic and route data as well as the desired SoC at the destination and intermediate destination. The evaluation of the charging stops is done dynamically and depends on the performance of the columns. As a result, route planning can suggest two short, high-power charging sessions instead of a single long, low-power charge.

Driving assistance system with swarm data

The optional “Travel Assist with swarm data” actively keeps the vehicle in the middle of the lane. It adapts to the driving style and can drive further left or further right in its own lane instead of exactly in the middle. It can also maintain the distance to the vehicle in front and the set maximum speed. The system features predictive cruise control and cornering assistance. The vehicle speed can be adapted to applicable speed restrictions and road layouts (curves, roundabouts, etc.).

Better voice control

The voice control recognizes voice commands much more quickly and precisely, thereby increasing operating and driving comfort. The improved recognition quality of the voice control is now around 95 percent. In addition, the system uses digital microphones to recognize whether the driver or front passenger is speaking and implements the instructions accordingly – for example with dual-zone climate control.

The voice control understands free formulations and colloquial questions and statements, asks questions if necessary and interrupts. The answers arrive in two ways – online from the cloud and offline from the information stored in the car. The online comparison ensures a particularly high recognition rate and quality of results, even when searching for special destinations. Voice control is available in all IDs on the German market. Models available if the We Connect Plus service is activated.

The ID also brings benefits in the displays and in infotainment. Software 3.0 many innovations. The optional “augmented reality head-up display”, which projects important information directly into the field of view of the windshield, is now expanded to include additional displays in the long range: In addition to displaying the optional assisted lane change of “Travel Assist”1, it also shows new ones Symbols such as roundabouts and distance information to the destination. The turn arrows now appear even better integrated into the environment. In ID. In addition to the remaining distance to the destination, the cockpit also shows the state of charge (SOC) as a percentage next to a correspondingly filled battery symbol. “We are above the ID. “Drivers Club in close contact with our customers – many of them wanted the percentage, for example, so we implemented it,” says Silke Bagschik, CMO of the ID project unit. Digital and Head of Sales and Marketing for the e-Mobility series.
