(Fighting against new crown pneumonia) Germany has confirmed a total of 3.7 million people, Merkel hopes to extend the national epidemic status

China News Agency, Berlin, June 4 (Reporter Peng Dawei) As of the evening of the 4th local time, the cumulative number of people diagnosed with the new crown virus in Germany has exceeded 3.7 million. Although the number of newly diagnosed cases in a single day in Germany has shown a downward trend recently, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said through her spokesperson that the country needs to extend the “national epidemic status” that will expire at the end of this month.

The German disease control agency announced that the number of new diagnoses and new deaths were 3165 and 86 respectively. According to real-time data from Germany’s “Times Online”, as of 23:00 local time on the 4th, a total of 3,704,113 people were diagnosed and 89,739 people died in Germany. Up to now, Germany has received 53.4 million doses of vaccines, and a total of 16,708,899 people have been fully vaccinated, accounting for 20.1% of the total population of Germany.

German Federal Government Spokesperson Sebet was asked at a press conference in Berlin on the same day whether Merkel himself would extend the “national epidemic status” that was about to expire, saying that Merkel believed that the extension would be extended. It makes sense. However, Sybet also emphasized that according to the German Infectious Disease Prevention and Control Act, the decision on whether to extend the status belongs to the German Bundestag.

Deutsche News Agency quoted Merkel’s ruling CDU chairman Raschelt in a high-level party meeting saying that he plans to extend the “national epidemic” to September 30 this year. Raschelt said that this will allow the short-time work system for employees to bail out and the economic assistance for enterprises to continue until the end of September.

Although the federal level is cautious about the trend of the epidemic, many German states have begun to expand the scope of “unblocking”. From that day on, Berlin no longer requires shoppers, outdoor diners and swimming pool visitors to produce negative reports for the new crown, and Meiqian State has begun to allow tourists from all over Germany to enter. Bavaria also announced that it will implement a series of “unblocking” measures from next week, including allowing indoor dining and shopping without advance reservations. (Finish)
