31 dead and 17 injured in attack in central Mali
The CCTV news client Mali Transitional Government issued a communiqu on December 4, local time, stating that an armed attack occurred in the central part of the country on the 3rd, resulting in 31 deaths and 17 injuries.
The communiqué stated that unidentified militants attacked and set fire to a truck carrying civilians in the Bandiagara area on the 3rd, causing 31 deaths and 17 injuries. The government has deployed reinforcements in the area to track down the attackers.
Mali Transitional President Asimi Goita announced on December 4 that a three-day mourning for the victims will be held from the 5th.
In March 2012, a military coup took place in Mali. In May 2015, the Mali government signed a peace and reconciliation agreement with some armed groups in the northern region. In June of the same year, the parties completed the final signing of the agreement. However, conflicts have continued in the northern region of Mali in recent years, and armed attacks in the central and southern regions have also increased.
