Bees invaded one of the courts of the Indian Wells tennis tournament, forcing the defending champion Carlos Alcaraz (ATP 2) and Alexander Zverev (6), then in the middle of a match, to take shelter for almost two hours.
Title holder, the Spaniard beat Olympic Champion Alexander Zverev (6) 6-3 6-1 to reach the last four of the first Masters 1000 of the year. But he probably didn’t imagine having to deal with hundreds of insects.
A game all over the scoreboard, Carlos Alcaraz waves his racket around his face, bothered by a sudden and massive arrival of bees on Stadium 1, the central court of the tennis complex located in the Californian desert.
Alcaraz stung in the forehead
The referee then observed the situation from the top of his chair, before also quickly becoming the target of insects: “we are invaded by bees, the game cannot continue, a break is necessary from now on”, he hastened to communicate to the public.
The Spaniard then reached him before running, frightened, off the court. And for good reason: during this mishap, the world number 2 was stung in the forehead.
