The reform of the Housing Benefit Regime Law will allow tenants to access a house or rehabilitate it, according to Rigel Sergent, deputy to the National Assembly and member of the Habitat and Housing Subcommittee. Speaking to Unión Radio, Sergent emphasized the importance of making the lease reliable for tenants, especially in light of the challenges faced by more than 500 thousand families who rely on rental housing.
Sergent highlighted the role of the National Superintendency of Housing Leasing (Sunavi) in supervising the cost paid by tenants, noting that some landlords charge excessively in dollars for outdated spaces. He mentioned that through Sunavi, at least 150 voluntary surrenders of tenant homes have been registered, avoiding the need for lengthy administrative trials.
The high level of attendance of tenants and owners at Sunavi indicates the effectiveness of dialogue in resolving housing issues, Sergent explained. He emphasized the importance of communication and cooperation between all parties involved in the housing rental process to ensure a fair and equitable system for all.
