Chelsea are in the League Cup final. After losing 1-0 in the first leg, the Blues turned things around in style, beating Middlesbrough (6-1).
The first 45 minutes were overwhelming! Pochettino’s men were already leading 4-0 at half-time thanks to goals from Howson (15′), in his own goal, Enzo Fernández (29′), Disasi (36′) and Cole Palmer (42′). In the 2nd half, the English 2nd tier team had no reaction and Chelsea extended the result. Englishman Palmer scored twice (77′) and already has 11 successful shots this season, being the Blues’ top scorer. Madueke scored the 6th goal (81′), before Rogers (88′) reduced the score for the visitors.
After the final whistle, Mauricio Pochettino praised the team. “Today we were accurate. That’s what failed in the first leg. We were fantastic in the last third”, said the Chelsea coach, praising Palmer: “He’s very versatile and dynamic. He always finds a way to help the team.”
The Blues return to Wembley two years after defeating Liverpool on penalties in the same competition. It remains to be seen whether it will be a 2022 rematch with the Reds or a derby with Fulham.
