A China Eastern Boeing 737-800 with 132 people on board crashed in the southern province of Guangxi. It is not yet clear whether or not there are survivors, the official Chinese media point out.
This is a China Eastern Airlines aircraft, flight MU5735. The aircraft had departed from Kunming and was headed for Guangzhou. State television CCTV specified that the crash occurred near the city of Wuzhou, in the mountainous region of Guangxi.
Falling, the Boeing-737-800 “caused a fire”. CCTV added that rescue teams were sent to the scene.
The incident was confirmed by the Chinese Civil Aviation Authority, which said there were 123 passengers and 9 crew members on board.
The crashed plane is not a new generation Boeing Max, the model involved in previous fatalities. That particular aircraft model has not yet returned to service in China. The aircraft was six years old, according to FlightRadar.
