What we know about Ennio
A year after the death of Ennio Morricone, Giuseppe Tornatore wanted to pay homage to him. He wanted to pay homage to it geniusbut also the persona. A professional and a friend with whom he worked for twenty-five years on films, documentaries, television commercials, great successes, dreamed and never realized projects. To honor him, Tornatore let the eyes and words of those who knew him and loved him tell the story. As Ennio, which grossed over 4 million at the cinema, is full of first-rate contributions: Clint Eastwood and Carlo Verdone, Quentin Tarantino and Dario Argento, Bruce Springsteen and Oliver Stone. Directors, actors and artists who tell anecdotes, who give their very personal look at Morricone, who tell how sweet and vigorous he was, in constant search for perfection, with a profound knowledge of his profession but full of fears. Together with their contributions, there are clips from films on which the composer worked, but also exclusive videos that tell the lesser-known side of him, from his passion for staccatos to the real sounds from which he drew inspiration.
Ennio Morricone and Giuseppe Tornatore, a profound relationship
For Giuseppe Tornatore, Ennio it’s not just a tribute to a friend. It is an intimate project, which tells of a lifelong human and professional relationship. Morricone wrote the music for all of Tornatore’s films: only his first work, The Camorrista, is set to music by Nicola Piovani. For 32 years, the two were great friends. But, in Ennio, the director also talks about the relationship between the composer and his wife. A woman who throughout his life protected him from the everyday world, guarding his genius and defending his freedom.
