At least five people have died in a bus crash on the A9 motorway near Leipzig in Germany. The Dpa agency writes this, citing the police. In the accident involving the bus that lost control and overturned, a Flixbus, there are also “numerous injured”, it is added without providing further details. The Flixbus was traveling between Wiedemar and Schkeuditzer Kreuz in the direction of Munich and should have stopped in Leipzig around 10am. This was reported by Bild. More than 12 people were injured.

In the statement, Flix confirms that «a long-distance bus traveling on behalf of FlixBus was involved in an accident on the route from Berlin to Zurich», the accident occurred «around 10 am near the Wiedemar interchange and the Schkeuditzer Kreuz on the A9. There were 53 passengers and 2 drivers on board.” Flix underlines that «the safety of passengers and drivers is always the top priority. Our thoughts are with all those affected by this incident and their families. We will share additional information as it becomes available.”

53 passengers and two drivers on board

The bus left Berlin at 8 this morning towards Zurich. At the junction between Wiedemar and Schkeuditzer Kreuz, in the direction of Munich, the vehicle went off the road for reasons yet to be ascertained, crashing into a group of trees and then overturning. As German media reported, the 53 passengers and two drivers were thrown from their seats and the bus was seriously damaged. Numerous emergency vehicles intervened on site, including five helicopters.
