Farmers, who have been affected by increased costs and damage to crops due to recent floods and fires, gathered in front of the “Agrotika” Fair.
The Greek portal “Ekatimerini” states that farmers from Thessaly and other parts of Greece arrived in Thessaloniki immediately after representatives of farmers from Larissa and Kardica announced that they intend to intensify the protests in the coming days.
Demonstrators threw apples and hazelnuts in the streets as they moved towards the Fair.
The farmers then joined their colleagues from the region of central Macedonia, who have been at the southern gate of the Fair with tractors since Thursday, February 1.

The Greek administration on Friday unveiled a new support package for farmers, including tax breaks, a five-month discount on electricity, loan write-offs and a promise to speed up the payment of funds from flood recovery funds in central Greece.
Associations of farmers said at the protest in Thessaloniki that the measures presented by the Government are only a “drop in the ocean” and announced that they will increase the blockades of highways during the weekend.
