Iran says the attack on Israel achieved all its goals – Dagsavisen

– The operation was successfully carried out from last night until this morning, and achieved all its objectives, says Mohammad Bagheri in the Iranian military to state Iranian TV.

Iran describes the attack as self-defense after Israel’s attack on the Iranian consulate in Syria earlier in April, in which seven members of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard were killed in addition to several civilians.

It is the first time Iran has attacked Israel directly, which marks an escalation of the long-standing conflict between the two countries.

300 drones and rockets

Iran launched more than 300 drones and rockets at Israel. A total of twelve people were injured in the attack, according to the Israeli army.

But almost all the drones and rockets were intercepted before they reached Israel, according to Israel, with help from the US, Jordan and other allies.

A number of countries have condemned the attack, including the US, NATO and Norway. The UN Security Council will hold an emergency meeting on the situation on Sunday. The same applies to the G7 countries.

Warns

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi warns Israel and its allies against any “reckless” action in response to the Iranian attack.

– If the Zionist regime or its supporters show reckless behavior, they will receive a decisive and much stronger response, says Raisi in a statement.

He further says that Iran advises Israel to appreciate what he calls a responsible and proportionate action on the Iranian side.

Bagheri also says that in Iran’s view the operation has ended, and also warns Israel against retaliating against the attack.

Israel’s emergency government, which was established after the attack on 7 October, will discuss how to respond on Sunday afternoon.

– Much bigger

– Our response will be much greater than the night’s military action if Israel retaliates, says Bagheri.

He adds that Iran is also warning the US that any support for a retaliatory strike by Israel will result in US military bases being targeted for attack.

The head of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, Hossein Salami, also warns that Iran will retaliate against any Israeli attack on its interests, officials or citizens.

Targeted

Bagheri says Iran’s attack targeted an intelligence center and an air base. According to him, it was this base that the Israeli planes used in the attack on the consulate took off from.

– Both of these targets were significantly destroyed and put out of service, according to Bagheri.

Israel, for its part, has said that the attack resulted in minor injuries.

Hundreds of Iranians gathered in Tehran’s Palestine Square after the attack began, waving Iranian and Palestinian flags to show support for the military action.

– More dangerous

– It is a dangerous world, and it just got a little more dangerous, says Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide (Ap) in a comment on the attack on the night of Sunday.

He emphasizes that Norway condemns the attack, and that it is important that the situation is not escalated now.

– Iran says this is a response to the attack in Damascus. It was also illegal, and we condemned it, but that does not give anyone the right to revenge or retaliation, says the foreign minister.

– This just illustrates how important it is to find a solution to the Israel-Palestine issue. Everything is related to it.
